Holden & Holden Designs aka Holden Wood Design is one of the leading woodcarving companies of the Pacific Rim, specializing in sculptural and classical design using various exotic Hawaiian hardwoods to achieve a kaleidoscope of colors (no painting or staining is involved). This art form has been perfected through the use of prototypes and years of experimentation in the production shop of Robert and Rita Holden. Although the method was used primarily during the creation of smaller waterfowl carvings during the past three decades, in recent years the same technique has been used with great success to create numerous larger scale carvings. Testimonials from clients of nearly 20 years ago who first purchased pieces utilizing this approach attest to the durability and lasting quality of such a method.
Holden & Holden Design's "one of a kind" commissions, which have numbered in the thousands during the past 30 years, are highly coveted items and are greatly valued today by art collectors around the world. Today, the company designs, organizes and undertakes complex carving projects "to make the ideas and dreams of clients come alive." Since the business is a collaboration of both artists, not only do their personalities emerge but their woodwork demonstrates the myriad of ways to assemble and create craft as they continue to introduce unique designs to the company's existing product line.
