Traditional Poi Pounder w/ Carving (assorted woods)

The Poi Pounder is an implement traditionally carved from one piece of stone or wood
consisting of a flared circular base and an upward curved bar. It was common in domestic
use by ancient Hawaiians when mashing or pounding breadfruit, taro and other fruits.
Today, its contemporary use includes food and medicinal preparation as well as an
artistic connection to ancient Hawai'i. |
